The usual training teaches posture, pace and eye contact, and produces people who are visibly doing presence. The thing itself is different in kind: it is what becomes available when a person is not managing an internal emergency while they speak. That is a capacity, and capacities are built rather than coached in an afternoon.
This volume works from the inside out — regulation first, then attention, then the specific demands of the senior room. It is direct about the fact that some of what is called executive presence is a preference for a particular class and body, and separates that from the part which is real.
