Developmental theory says a person moves through structures. Non-dual traditions say there is nothing to attain and nowhere to go. Each has a standing objection to the other: development can become an endless self-improvement project, and non-duality can become an excuse for a person who has done no work on themselves at all.
This volume argues that both are describing something real and that the apparent contradiction dissolves once you are precise about what is developing and what was never in question. It is one dense chapter, and the one most likely to annoy adherents of both camps.
