A canon assembled from many traditions needs a stated basis for inclusion, or it is only a reading list with the compiler's taste as the hidden criterion. This volume states the basis: seven principles that every framework here was tested against — among them that it must be honest about what it cannot see, and that it must remain usable by the person actually going through the thing it describes.
It is the shortest route to understanding why certain widely-known models are treated at length here and others are absent. It is also the document by which the Canon can be argued with.
